Author Interaction with Smt. Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan

Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, under the aegis of Salwan Education Trust (SET), hosted an enriching Author Interaction with acclaimed author Ms Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan on 17 August 2026 at the school premises. The programme brought together approximately 90 students of Classes IV–VIII, accompanied by teachers from seven Salwan sister schools—Salwan Boys Senior Secondary School and Salwan Girls Senior Secondary School, Rajendra Nagar; Salwan Public School, Rajendra Nagar; Salwan Public School, Gurugram; Salwan Junior School, Naraina; Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar; and Salwan Public School, Trans Delhi Signature City, Ghaziabad. The event was graced by Smt Mukul Jha, Director – Programmes, Salwan Education Trust, and held under the guidance of Capt Richa Sharma Katyal, Principal, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar.

The programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana, setting a meaningful tone for the literary engagement. Ms Srinivasan then introduced students to her latest book, Bird/Dog, sharing how an observation or idea can develop into a complete story and offering insights into creating narratives and characters.

An engaging segment was the author’s reading of selected excerpts from Bird/Dog. She encouraged students to observe details, interpret meaning and think beyond the text, helping them appreciate reading as an active process of observation and reflection.

Ms Srinivasan also shared insights into the craft of storytelling, her evolution as a writer and the influences that shape her work. She offered students a glimpse into the process of transforming an idea into a book.

The question-and-answer session saw enthusiastic participation, with students raising thought-provoking questions about the relevance of human writers in the age of Artificial Intelligence, writing for children, her experiences as an author and the creative decisions behind her work.

The programme concluded with students getting their copies of Bird/Dog signed by Ms Srinivasan, creating a cherished memento of the occasion.

The interaction reinforced the idea that every story begins with an idea, observation or question. Students were encouraged to become keen readers and budding creators by observing the world around them and expressing their thoughts through words. The session nurtured curiosity, empathy and imagination while connecting students across the Salwan family of schools through a meaningful literary experience.
