Leveraging a Legacy

Our roots run deep. The Trust that governs this school is more than eighty years old; this campus in Mayur Vihar has served East Delhi for around three decades.

An early Salwan school gathering

The Beginning – Peshawar, 1941

The Salwan Education Trust was founded in 1941 at Peshawar by late Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan – a true patriot and visionary dedicated to nation-building. He championed a single, radical principle: education should be accessible to all, regardless of background, rooted in justice and inclusivity.

Education for All

Driven by the ideology of “Education for All,” Pt. G. L. Salwan established a network of institutions – the Salwan Sanatan Dharam High Schools (1942), Salwan Boys School (1949), Salwan Girls School (1952), and Salwan Public School (1953). Over the last 80 years, the Trust has set unparalleled benchmarks in education, nurturing young minds with a blend of academic excellence, values, and holistic development. Today, 08 schools are being run successfully under the aegis of Salwan Education Trust, carrying forward the legacy with an unwavering commitment to quality education, social responsibility, and nation-building.

In Memoriam – Shri Shiv Dutt Salwan

Son of Late Pt. Girdhari Lal Salwan, Shri Shiv Dutt Salwan (1929–2024) devoted his life to expanding the Trust’s reach, deepening the founding promise of “Education for All” with each passing decade.

Education is the key to unlocking the potential of our young minds. Let us nurture, inspire and empower them to shape a brighter future.

Our Vision

Nurturing empowered citizens, having universal values, to serve the society and Nation.

Our Mission

Our aim is to groom self-directed, confident learners empowered with skills, knowledge and wisdom through well-rounded education. We aspire to ignite in our students a passion for lifelong learning and the zeal to serve the society.

Service Before Self

Our vision is to nurture empowered citizens with universal values. The motto that carries it – Service Before Self, and Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya, inscribed on the Salwan crest – is a living practice: to illuminate minds through knowledge, dispel ignorance, and put the collective good ahead of personal gain.

The Rising Sun

The Salwan logo - The Rising Sun embodies the enduring ethos of Service Before Self. Like the sun, it symbolises selfless service, enlightenment, and hope. Rooted in tradition and embracing progress, Salwan nurtures knowledge, character, and compassion, inspiring every learner to contribute meaningfully with empathy, responsibility, and excellence.

Our Core Values

Every student is nurtured to become a progressive global citizen who upholds the institution’s rich legacy while exemplifying compassion, moral integrity, and a humanistic outlook, guided by six core values.

  • We raise the bar every time-in the classroom, on the field, and in service to our communities. Mediocrity is never the standard; mastery and continuous improvement are. Every teacher, student, and staff member measures success not only by effort, but by impact and growth. This commitment is reflected in our pursuit of academic excellence, with students consistently demonstrating outstanding performance in scholastic and co-scholastic domains. It is further strengthened through initiatives such as the Eco Club’s bio-enzyme and microgreen projects, the development of innovative models like the Bionic Arm and Smart City Model, and a culture of hands-on learning, creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving. Beyond academics, our students proudly represent the school in cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, grappling, and athletics at Zonal, State, and National levels, consistently bringing laurels to the school through their dedication, perseverance, and sporting excellence.

  • We take responsibility–for our actions, our learning, our teams, and our results. In a world of constant change, we view responsibility as an opportunity to lead, contribute, and create impact. No challenge is “someone else’s problem”; we encourage everyone to act with ownership, initiative, and accountability. This spirit is reflected in student-led initiatives such as MUN conferences, the Skill Expo, and the Entrepreneurship Cell, where students transform ideas into meaningful projects, develop innovative solutions, and manage resources effectively, including ventures such as creating eco-friendly shoe polish. The school also demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through initiatives like the installation of solar panels to generate renewable energy and the Climate Clock, raising awareness about environmental responsibility. Together, these efforts build a culture of innovation, sustainability, and responsible citizenship.

  • We believe that education extends beyond the classroom and that every member of the school community has a responsibility to contribute positively to society. Guided by empathy, service, and social responsibility, our students, teachers, and parents actively participate in meaningful initiatives that promote environmental responsibility, civic awareness, and community well-being. Teachers mentor students through plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, road safety and health awareness programmes, and community outreach activities. Students engage in service-learning experiences, including donation drives, collaborations with NGOs, Hunar Mela, and Community Lunch, developing compassion, teamwork, and leadership. Parent partnership programmes further enrich the learning experience through interactive sessions on topics such as cyber safety, entrepreneurship, and Vedic Mathematics, mentoring opportunities, and community collaborations. The school administration also strengthens a culture of volunteerism and shared responsibility through events such as Samman Diwas, Founders’ Day, and community engagement programmes. Together, these experiences nurture socially responsible, empathetic, and proactive citizens committed to creating a positive impact on society.

  • We raise the bar every day by embracing curiosity, experimentation, and smart risk-taking. Excellence and innovation are not confined to technology–they shape how we teach, learn, and solve real-world challenges. This culture is reflected in a student-led STEAM project that designed and implemented a programmable bell system to automate complex school schedules, reduce manual intervention, and replace expensive commercial alternatives. Now operational in the Primary Department, it exemplifies our commitment to experiential learning, practical innovation, and empowering students to create meaningful solutions that improve everyday life.

  • We believe that learning is a lifelong journey driven by curiosity, reflection, and continuous improvement. Students, teachers, and school leaders are encouraged to embrace new ideas, develop emerging skills, and grow through meaningful learning experiences. Teachers regularly participate in CBSE Capacity Building Programmes, workshops, webinars, AI integration sessions, and international education events such as BETT Asia and BETT UK. Students enrich their learning through projects, internship programmes, Heartfulness Brighter Minds, educational visits to IIM Dehradun and Leh–Ladakh, research, and experiential learning, building confidence, leadership, and critical thinking. The school strengthens this culture by promoting collaborative learning, sharing best practices, and engaging parents through expert talks and career guidance sessions. Together, these experiences create a vibrant learning community where growth, adaptability, and lifelong learning are valued by all.

  • We believe that trust is built through honesty, fairness, empathy, and mutual respect. Our school nurtures an inclusive environment where every learner feels safe, valued, and empowered to express their ideas. Discipline is guided by responsibility, self-respect, and respect for others, creating a culture where integrity and compassion shape everyday interactions. This commitment is reflected through transparent and accountable school practices, mentor–mentee and peer educator programmes that promote guidance, leadership, and emotional well-being, and inclusive classrooms that support learners with diverse needs. Bridge Classes provide additional academic support to help students strengthen foundational concepts and learn at par with their peers. Students are encouraged to resolve differences through dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect while developing empathy and responsible decision-making. To promote inclusivity in academics and sports, students are encouraged to participate in Para Sports, building confidence, equal opportunity, resilience, and a deep appreciation for diversity.

Chairman

Shri Bharat Salhotra

“The era of ‘average performance’ is over. My advice to young people is to think ambitiously while beginning modestly. Educational institutions, to my mind, must be centres of critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and self-directed learning – places where students and educators alike question assumptions, embrace innovation, and adapt global best practices to meet local needs.”

“Teaching is among the noblest of professions, and it asks for total devotion, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Schools must equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive in a fast-changing world, without ever losing sight of their moral foundation. That is why I expect every teacher here to lead by example, inspiring young minds through integrity, empathy, and our guiding motto, Service Before Self.”
